Another Snake in a Can?
For the second time in as many months, a Eunice woman has found what she believes to be pieces of a snake in a canned product bought from the same Eunice supermarket the first discovery was made.
First was snake in green beans, now what is possibly a snake has been found in a can of hunt's tomato paste.
The store isn't responsible, they don't open and inspect cans before putting them on a shelf. As consumers, we hope the distribution company does that. The can in question originated from the ConAgra Company, based in Omaha, Nebraska.
It happened at dinner time. Nicole Guillory was making spaghetti for her family when she noticed something in the sauce.
"When I went to take another spoonful, I noticed brown stuff in it. I'm thinking its worms. Come to find out, looked like a snake. You could see the snake skin" said Guillory.
A ConAgra foods spokeswoman says the company is willing to hear from any consumers when there's a problem. She says at this time, there isn't enough information to speculate as to what the appropriate steps would be.
Mrs. Guillory says she was told by Super 1 Foods to return the contaminated product and it will be shipped back to ConAgra, where tests will be run to determine just what exactly was in the tomato paste.
Another Eunice family had a similar experience back in August. That one involves a can of green beans. A mother preparing dinner in Eunice found a piece of a snake in her can of green beans.
After taking the can of green beans back to the same Super 1 Foods grocery store in Eunice, it was sent it off to the distribution company for testing.
The family later received a letter saying the can contained a sliced section of snake that was harvested, processed and canned with the green beans.
