NEW TO TEGUS... (kind a long)

louiec Sep 07, 2003 07:31 PM

OK so I went to the White Plains Expo... and fell in love with Tegus... they are amazing and Beautiful creatures...

now... that I have discovered them (dont know how I over looked them in the past) I would like to learn a lot more about them. While at the show I saw a bunch of them different sizes and colors (b&w, Blue, green, etc etc) and classified as being from places as Paraguay, Argentina, etc etc...

well I have done some quick reading around here... and this forum is great... I can see that everyone is more than willing to give info... and arent snooty about newcomers (unlike other forums hehehe)

I was wondering if anyone can tell me of some good books to purchase and read (I know for my Bearded Dragons there is a book that everyone recommends: "Bearded Dragaon Manual"... are there any for tegus that are a definative source for Yegus info?)

Also if their are any sites anyone can recommend (breeders, info, etc etc) that I can also go to, to read up on tegus and further my knowledge... I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Thanks again,

Louie C. (newly found fanatic of Tegus)

PS- currently my house holds 3 Bearded Dragons and 2 Frills...

On line Resources with little decent tidbits of information:

http://www.agamainternational.com

http://www.bluetegu.com

Books are little scarce on the subject of Tegus, as Tegu care is lumped in with the care of monitor lizards.

Barrons the "General Care and Maintenance of Popular Monitors and Tegus" is a decent book although largely outdated. But is a good source of ideas like housing large lizards in captivity. You can buy this title through Amazon.com

On-line resources tend to focus more on the Argentine species of Tegu, as to the Columbian, Brazillian, and Paraguay Tegus information is a little hard to come by, but keep your eyes open and feel free to post here for additional info.

Hope this Helps,

-Kit
