markers?

SnakeCharmer77 Nov 02, 2008 09:54 PM

Ok, i havent jumped into the breeding pool yet..so im not familiar with morph markers on those that are het or co-dom...
i have my two lil ones, and i was wondering what markers might i look for to see if they might have some secrets in their genes...

i would post pics but i havent got a good pic of the boy yet to save my life, lol...and i havent tried taking pics of the lil female. i just got her not long ago, and shes already going through a shed cycle.

i guess i might just have to wait and be supprised, if i do breed them...

the three genetic triggers seem to be light colored eyes light colored head and clear belly (pattern does not run through the belly scales) other than that just do a lot of research ralphdavisreptiles dot com or newenglandreptiledistributors dot com those two are great resources for all that is ball python my morph heros! Click lots of links, read and learn!

Like Brian said, you'll have to do a fair amount of searching and reading. There is a lot of information out there and most of it is fairly easy to find. Nearly everyone seems to keep a blog of their breeding efforts and observations.

However, if you picked these snakes up at a pet store or at a show you most likely have a couple of Wild Type animals. They could have a hidden gene, but if that is the case... it'll be hidden well.

Last year seemed to be the year of the paradox morph. This year seemed to be the year of the hidden/unknown recessive gene (Axanthic Pieds....without even trying??? WOW!)

Sometimes the only way to find out is to breed them... which is 90% of the fun!
