Very aggressive Peruvian

blwhle Nov 03, 2008 10:29 PM

I just got a baby female Iquitos Peruvian boa(captive bred). She's in perfect condition and eats great. She is easily the most aggressive snake I've ever seen or delt with. Its not a huge issue, I got her more as a display animal then anything else. I've tried to get her out of the cage twice now and its impossible. And I'm pretty sure it wont be a situation where she will calm down once she's out. So basically I'm leaving her alone for now. Her light and thermostat are on a timer, so all I do is check the temperature during the day and once more before I go to bed. She seems very happy. Does anybody else here have any similar experiences? Is there a chance she might calm down? Thanks.

I think that you're doing the right thing just leaving her alone for now. Most of my peruvians had pretty bad attitudes when smaller but have mellowed out with age. Some mellowed out after being 6 months old, some a year, some still can be a little tempermental, but from paying attention to them I can guess pretty good what kind of mood they seem to be in.

Also if you don't have one you might want to think about adding a hiding spot. In my experience it's seemed to make them feel a little more secure.

Best of luck, hopefully you'll post pics of her soon. Nick
