Red Northern Pine (Pics)

championjeep Nov 03, 2008 11:19 PM

I went to the NARBC show in Tinley back in early October and found these. I figured I havn't seen them for quite few years and decided to pick them up. These are Red Northern Pines. Does anyone know who is working with them?

The snake pictured looks very much like a bullsnake at first glance, and not a northern pine, IMO.

same here, they look like bullsnakes to me or at least have bullsnake blood in them........

Could also be a mixture of the two.

you guys are right, that is not a northern pine

mattkau Nov 04, 2008 10:50 AM

One more in agreement. Not northern pines. More bull than anything else.

Here is one of my Red Phase northerns for comparison. Notice one is lighter than the other, whic is common with this color variant in nature as well as in terraria (private collections).

I too saw those snakes and the first thing that went through my mind was, bullsnake cross! It's a sad thing you got sold something that was a hybrid and told it was pure northern.

championjeep Nov 07, 2008 04:32 PM

Thanks for your opinions. Seeing that everyone is in agreement that these are crosses. I am taking them this weekend to a friend with quite a few years experience in Pits. When I look at them close up I see no bullsnake in them . I am hoping its just a bad pic of them. If for some reason they are crosses I will definitely get rid of them. I bought them as pure not crosses. I wil definitely let everyone know my findings this weekend.

Let me ask you this...are you sure you posted the right pics?? I say that cause in your original post, you refer to them as a pair, and it really appears that it is the same snake in both. Is it possible that the wrong pics were used? Pines and what you posted are so different in looks, that this was just a thought of mine that I wanted to ask.

Also, of course, everyone here is saying that the pics look very much like a bullsnake or cross. Let us know what you find out.
Find them good homes if you decide to get rid of them.

Take care!

I agree. After close inspection of pics, that is the same animal is both shots. Good luck with getting things sorted out.

I took them to a friend to have him look at them. He agrees they are not pure red but they are not crossed with any Bullsnake. He said they are a Pine snake. I don't doubt him considering he has been into pits for for as long as I have known him.

Are the snakes you took your friend to view the same one as the one you have pictured?

From what I see, it is the same snake pictured labeled male and female in your original post. What you have pictured is not a northern pine but a snake that looks very much like a bullsnake, and I will ask again, to be helpful, are you sure you put up the right pics on your post?

Take care!
