1523 Gram 07 Breeding Female Mojo

fgs Nov 04, 2008 02:48 AM

This is a photo I took last night of one of my 07 female hold back Blushing Mojaves.

She is a beautiful example of why I call my Mojaves Blushing Mojaves.

I love the idea of possibly producing white snakes from a ball python that isn't much more than a year old.

Good luck with everyone's 09 season.

I offer my babies one rat pinky or fuzzy per week until they go through their second shed, then I start offering them appropriate sized food items twice a week until they are around a year old.

It is not uncommon for them to gain 100 grams or more per month on this program. Obviously some won't eat that much and that's just fine, but at least I offer.

I believe that baby snakes along with other types of baby animals are genetically engineered to grow fast especially within the first year. For them to gain the weight that nature has planned for them they need to eat huge amounts of food.

Take birds as an example most people would not be able to tell the difference between a two month old pigeon from a ten year old pigeon. Most dogs at one year old are close to full size and when is the last time you saw a skinny 4 month old child.

I didn't go to class the day they taught us snake breeders about growing our snakes slow.

Good luck with your 09 season.

me personally, always tried to allow my babies to grow at least 100g a month for their first year.

i'm one to offer my snakes what they are willing to eat to make that quota per month. if they take it good if not oh well.

good to see that i'm not the only one that thinks this.

1500g for a yearling is some good weight!

hope the best for you this season.

i've already got some good locks here on my end.

Thanks for your response.

It's good to know that my logic is shared by others.

I hope you have a fantastic season.

it is amazing how some females will blow up to over 1800 grams by 18 months old, and others take 4 years to break 900 grams! we have a clutch of '07's females out of a particular normal female that are USDA purple ribbon angus growers! the real golden question is: does she have follicles yet an if so how many, and how big are they? suprisingly, not all of the '07 females over 1500 grams develope follicles, and many that do only have two or three good follicles. it is so nice to be able to tell instantly with ultrasound whether breeding a young borderline female will be worthwhile!!

Brian shes beautiful. I produced a 07 lemon girl thats about 1400 grams while her sib is only about 700 grams. I offer food on the same regiment but the smaller girl refuses from time to time.

I also have a 07 het red axanthic female (from Tom Barnhart) thats is almost 1400 grams

And my cinny girl (from Jared Carr) shes about 1200 grams but shes a mouser

These pics are about a month or 2 old so Im guessing on their current weight. Thanks for looking
