feeding JCPs

Do you guys feed in the tank or in a separate container? I've heard strong endorsements of both.

Feed ALL my snakes, including my JCP in their enclosures...

People go both ways on this, but I think the advantages to feeding in their enclosure where they feel most secure is the way to go. (among other reasons)

There was just a discussion about all of this not too long ago, I think in this forum... do a search.

I agree with Todd 100%....and his JCP's gorgeous too, so I think you should listen to him ;0

When I first started with snakes many many years ago and I had one lone ball, I fed separate enclosures. Then I got more snakes as well as larger snakes (burms) and realized that feeding separate didnt work quite well. I never handle food with my hands, and always feed with tongs, tapping the cage with tongs when feeding.

I feed in their enclosures. Cept a western hognose...he's on aspen bedding so put him in something so he doesn't eat the aspen by mistake. have never had a problem. Do handle between feedings so they won't think everytime the lid opens food drops in.

1 JCP about 7 foot. due to shed anyday.
4 corns
1 western hognose
1 honduran milk
and 1 baby trans-pecos...so cute.

I like to feed my carpets both in their inclosures and outside of them as well. Pythons are intelligent predators and must be stimulated or severe cage aggression can develop. That is why I like to vary what when and where i feed. This provides the necessary stimulation they need, but no doubt, is a poor substitute for the true "thrill of the hunt" they would get in the wild. In my opinion, varying the place you feed your snake, makes for a happier healthier captive animal.
