Two co-dom males to a single female...

coolluigi007 Nov 04, 2008 08:46 AM

Hello everyone. Okay, I just need to clear something up in my head. Okay, so I understand that you can breed two co-dom males to a single female. I also understand that she can lay eggs from both of the males, and maybe even the two co-dom morphs togeather, right? I'm just wondering if this is like a, once in a life-time thing that happens or is a somewhat realistic way of getting a double co-dom without having any co-dom girls. Thanks everyone...

Happy election day!

A clutch can have multiple fathers, but each egg will have only one father, so you can't get double co-dom babies from your example.

What you are referring to would be total insanity and would inspire literally hundreds of scientific papers. An egg being fertilized by 2 sperm? This would produce a triploid rather than diploid offspring, and the details of the fertilization would be something never seen before.

Yea, But Ive seen what looks like a SuperBlast come from a Pinstripe to Pastel... I don't know how, it just was... But Yea Your thinking of two males, say Bee and Lemonblast to a Normal and get SpinnerBlast. The two male Sperms will not make a cross into each other and make a Spinnerblast... It's some nice wishfull Thinking though..lol

i breed my own feeders. once in a while i will have to buy mice for my stuborn balls, but all in all i breed, raise, and feed all of my own.

feed 2 rats = ???
grow 2 rats and they produce a litter of 12 = ???

rest my case!

Continue this topc I have other question how will be look (teoreticly) forms of that babies : 25%codomant1, 25% coodominant2, 50% standard or 33% coodominant1, 33% coodominant2, 33% standard ?

coolluigi007 Nov 05, 2008 08:42 AM

Well, the thing is the girl might not end up using sperm from both males or not. So I don't think the odds are quite that even. I dunno, just my thoughts.

yeah, I'm not sure how often a clutch is hatched that was sired by two different males, but it would be very interesting to see the data from breeders.

But as far as each egg is concerned, depending on who the father is, each egg will have the same odds it would have in a more typical 1 male to a female scenario.

toshamc Nov 05, 2008 03:19 PM

Not a huge sampling but of the 6 or so clutches I produced last season where I'd backed up my co-dom male with another co-dom male - about half of them had a mixed representation of both fathers.

Me too. I wonder what kind of sperm competition/sperm selection may be going on with them.
