Jungle Corn question

Odyssey Sep 07, 2003 08:54 PM

Jungle corn snakes seem exotic and I think that they are very pretty, but I don't see them for sale much.

Are they rare, or not really popular, or too expensive, or what?

they aren't that common because they are hybrids and most people don't seen to like king/corn hybrids. I personally love them. but people tend to be more accepting towards creamsicles which are rat/corn hybrids/integrades.I don't know why, though...

I don't have much educated input as to why one doesn't see more Jungle Corns out there, but I can say that I own one. Hauss (my jungle corn) was my first major corn purchase, simply in the fact that "she" cost nearly $200 as a yearling. Hauss is an albino jungle corn, and has the best demeanor amongst all of my corns, is a VERY healthy eater (hence the name) and is overall a joy to live with.

From what I gathered from the man at the pet store I bought her from, it seems most people were scared away from buying her only due to price, but that there was definitely interest. The more I look online, the less information I find on Jungle Corns, and most of it is on experimental breeding and such. There seems to be a bit of an argument as to whether or not to call them "corn snakes" or not, since they're hybrids. Maybe this keeps the more seasoned herpers away, for fear of raising a corn that isn't pureblooded. But who knows. All I know is that Hauss is great, and I'd purchase another jungle corn in a hearbeat.

I'm glad to hear you say that, because I'm thinking of producing them in the near future.

I think that they are beautiful.

Normal corn x normal banded cal king.

As you can see some from this pic some will come out looking like corns and some will come out looking like kings. I should produce some from the anery to okeetee this next season and I'm going to cross a snow corn x lavender cal king (offspring should be awsome)

Not to put down your Jungles corns but it is a fact that the f-1's (first generation) breeding of hybrids look ugly. It is the F-2 (second generation form brother and sister breeding) that make some really awasone colors and abberancies. If you add the amel into the mix its gets even better.

Also the corn amel and cal king amel was discovered to be a allelic gene so that means if you breed a albino corn to an albino calif king you will get all albinos in the F-1 generation. Not hets as formerly expected.

Know if you really want to try something wild look at this cornduran (corn X honderuan)that was from a breeding of a snow striped motely het for hypo corn to a Tangerine honduran. These look just like corns but with better color.

here is a anery cornduran:
