Emaciated RES - Vitamin Suggestions?

Dove Sep 07, 2003 09:05 PM

I've got a female RES approx 6 years old, over the last two months her appetite has dropped off and she has lost alot of weight. She has ceased to eat live food (I've tried the usuals and some new things) and the only thing she will eat is salad shrimp, and only if hand fed. No changes to the environment, and the male she shares a split tank with is as ravenous and healthy as ever. No obvious injuries or health problems other than a lack of waste and the waste she produces is very concentrated (throws off my tank pH).

She's going into the vet shortly for a sonagram, there is a slight chance she is egg-bound, as she and the male were allowed to play outside this summer on nice days. If that is not the case, I'd love any suggestions on a good vitamin supplement I can inject or coat onto the shrimp to give them a bit more punch. I'm having the vet give her a B-complex shot which should help stimulate her system, but our herp specialist has moved and the guy who took her place is operating off my instructions and old notes, so he's no good for advice.

Thanks

Dont forget that your female doesnt have to even be with a male to produce eggs... They do it naturally whether they are fertile or not. Be sure to provide her with a place to maybe lay her eggs if she has to? But eggs could be the least of her problems, as you know I am sure they are experts in hiding any illness untill it is well under way... Good luck with your turtle I hope all goes well.
