I'm just surprised that's the first time you've ever had one hiss at you. Was it just a closed mouth quick hiss? Or did he go all out and open his mouth and hiss at you? I had a brazilian BCC do that to me once, quite intimidating.

That's interesting, my yellowbelly is my only snake that hisses at me. And he does it every time I go mess with him.

It's not common for any other snake to hiss at me though. It is common for my blood python to strike at me every time though...that bastard.

For me it's usually the little guys that are hissy. The first time a hatchling hissed at me I didn't even realize it was a hiss. I poked it a bit just to be sure and he let out another. It's just cute when they act all tough and are so small.

i only have two young ones.
I got the male first and when i first had him every time i would pick him up he would hiss. I thought it was funny. like Gimp says its cute how they all want to act defensive when they are that little. lol its like those little dogs with a big dog attitude.
it didnt take him long to figure out i wasnt going to be afraid of him and he stopped doing that.
i just got him a gf a couple of weeks ago. and of course i left her alone for a few days. when i did start to go in to check on her she would hiss. but then i noticed she was already starting to have milky eyes, so ive been leaving her alone and letting her go through her shed cycle. ill be glad when shes done lol. its like waiting to open a present, almost. lolol. yes, im a dork like that...
anyways, id say keep working with him, but just not alot at first. you dont want to stress him out. you need to gain his trust.

Oh ya, he already trusts me somewhat. Just got done giving him a bath. He liked that. Ya its the first time ones done that too me. I've had bp's for almost two years now. I've had alot of snakes that have been held alot, so they must have been more trusting.
