Mice colour

gemonensis Nov 06, 2008 04:38 AM

My milksnake used to eat white or brown mice every week. I offered her black-white mice every few days in a month, and
she refused it every time, even though she was hungry, and looking for a food. Like she couldn't recognise a black-white mouse as a food (unfrozen, or freshly killed).
Then I offered her white mouse, and after that, a brown mouse,
and she ate both. What do you think, was the colour problem,
or what?
Thanks

My BP is that way, won't eat any mouse that is not white ( crazy )!
My guess is they will only eat what their used to.

yeah, I have a couple snakes that will eat absolutely anything, even it if it's not food. I have another that used to just eat white mice but a couple months ago it refined it's diet and only eats white, LIVE mice. I'm trying to wean him onto pre-killed but he's in his shed right now and won't eat anything. Gotta love snakes...

I very, very seldom post here, however...

A long time ago when I still fed live mice, my now 16-year old corn snake was bitten by an all white mouse. After that any time I had a white mouse for him, I had to work extra hard to get him to eat it. Now for years we've been feeding f/t small rats, but he still remembers! I try and buy colored but they aren't always available, and sometimes he'll actually prefer to miss a feeding due to his color bias.
