homemade rack ???

mingdurga Nov 07, 2008 10:33 AM

Have ove 60 rubbermaid tubs in house and I'm not throwing them out to buy new racks with tubs. Might as well go find someone in the rotten apple to build some to spec. (un-assembled capabiltity too)
What material is best if 4" flexwatt used on all shelves for belly heat, since bare wood not feasible? Can the flex be "wrapped" so I have only one plug for thermostat?

Appreciate some good advice.

Thanks,

Mike

I still like melamine for the shelves. Yes it's heavy, but it is cheaper, flatter and more consistent in thickness than even the most expensive plywood.

One of my favorite racks (favorite for its simplicity and low cost) used melamine for the shelves and 1/2" plywood for the sides. No back except for a couple of strips of scrap plywood down the back to block the boxes. Then I wrapped the back with Reflectix.

I think I built the rack for $45, not including boxes or Reflectix or heating. It held seven 28 qt. tubs or fourteen 12 qt. tubs.

Turns out I still have pictures in my gallery. At the time this was taken I was only using it to hold supplies.
