Is it legal to own any venomous SNAKES in LA Co? I know you can own up to 2 native venomous snakes in CA...but I'm sure LA has a whole set of different rules.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I believe it is a City thing and not specifically a county thing......There are some cities that you have to register even a Boa or a Kingsnake. Call your local F&G offic and they will tell you. I imagine Los Angeles is a bit tougher because of population density.

From looking through it real quick, it unfortunately looks almost as if you need a permit for anything outside of a kingsnake or gophersnake in the unicorporated county, and need a permit for any dangerous animal or reptile in the city limits. but I'll let you look it all over.

As for the State law, it doesnt specify a limit 2. from the state law;(but county and city will override this in your case)

Restricted species are;(E) Family Crotalidae - Pit Vipers All species (D), except Crotalus viridis (Western rattlesnake), Crotalus atrox (Western diamondback rattlesnake), Crotalus ruber (red diamondback rattlesnake), Crotalus scutulatus (Mojave rattlesnake), Crotalus mitchelli (speckled rattlesnake) and Crotalus cerastes (Sidewinder) not restricted.

If I read the city law correctly, you even need a permit for many medium to large boids, as well as many monitors.

i have not used kingsnake all that much...still learning the ropes. how did you get that species list in your signature? there a way to have it attach automatically, or do you past it each time you post?
