Pastel Calico...Updated Photos

panhead Nov 07, 2008 11:24 PM

I was fortunate to hatch out three pastel calicos this past season. This one is my favorite one. He's about 4 months old and starting to color up nicely. I'm hoping he doesn't really white out. I'm definately putting a few more morph females with the father (calico) of this one this season.

to get some photos of the parents today. The female is an average looking pastel and the male is the most "un-calico" looking calico I have ever seen. When I got him I wasen't even sure he was a calico he has so little white on him. Had I known what the babies would look like I would have bred him to more pastels. Oh well, this season will be a little different. heeheehee. Thanks for the comments.

Great looking snake Bruce! Looks like he's just starting to color up. It amazes me how variable the Pastel Calico combo can be - each one is truly unique. The other thing I've noticed, and I'm sure you can back me up on this, is how difficult they are to photograph ......they never look as good as they do in person. Anyway, I think these two morhs were made for each other.

Best of luck in the upcoming season,
Dan

Wow, Bruce! That is a stunning animal! I'm with you about hoping it doesn't completely "white out". I think if the light areas were to white out in a "splotchy" pattern it would look the best.

I especially like how the Calico gene warped the pattern on the snakes back. I'll have to make it a point to get up there and visit your store sometime this winter. (Perhaps I can convince the wife to make a side trip when we are doing the obligatory "Christmas at the in-laws" thing this year.)

Here are the adult ball pythons that produced the pastel calico pictured above. The male calico was not too happy being pulled out of his cage today for the photo. He was just starting to "make his move" on the cinnamon that was in with him. LOL As I said earlier he is one of the least "calico looking" calicos I have seen.
Thanks for all the comments.
