Digns of legit HET offer?

drumsforlife5446 Nov 08, 2008 08:57 PM

What are the signs of a legitimate offer for anything 100% or even possible het? I know that chances must be taken with possible hets, but what about 100% hets? Should paperwork be involved? What do you all personally provide as breeders to the people who buy from you, or as buyers...what do you look for/should look for?

I ask because I am thinking of buying not only a spider but a 100% het ghost pair. I was wondering how I should prove they are full hets, so that I'm not just getting tricked. I have seen photos of them, and they look different from normals a bit...but I don't know how I can garuntee how legitimate the breeder is and I just...really need to know.

The best way too do that (sometimes the only way) is too work with someone that you know has been around, a big name breeder, or someone that you have had a friend or someone buy from. I have gotten a few hets this past month or two from both kind of sources and I'm very content that I got what I paid for. If it seems like a shady kind of deal, I wouldn't pay for it.

Paperwork is extremely easy to fake so we never insist on that. The way I see it, if someone is dishonest enough to sell a fake het, they will probably have no problem writing up fake papers with it. We buy hets from people we feel we can trust and who are knowledgeable. You can get a pretty good feeling for a person just by talking with them for a little while. Also, it never hurts to ask someone for references.

paperwork is worthless

if they are selling hets that they've bred themselves, then they should be able to shoot you pic of the visual parent(s).

to fake sell hets for the measly price they are commanding these days would not be in anyones interest over their building a reputation.

ask for references.

i agree that paperwork can be somewhat worthless and your ad and email correspondence amount to exactly the same thing. but i have begun offering a guarantee attached to a photo of the sold animal w/a signature. this way the buyer has some legal resource to claim "hey, i bred the het female in this photo that you signed two years in a row to a visual male and i have nothing to show for it"... i think that does have some value, even if its peace of mind.
