HELP MALE LOSING WEIGHT???WHY

mugencrx Nov 09, 2008 08:28 AM

Hi I am partialy new to the snake seen and I have a situation that I feel needs attention. I have a jungle pastel male and this will be his first breeding season, he is active, sperm plugging, and showing alot of interest in females. Although he has not eatin in over a month, I was told not to worry, if they do not eat, unless they lose weight unfortunately my scale took a crap, and I am purchasing one asap. But I can tell by looking at him that he has lost weight. What do I do??? Do I go ahead and force feed him??? Help Please thanks - Matt

I wouldn't recommend force feeding him. Raise his temps up and give him a day or two and try and feed him. It's ok if he's lost a little weight, unless it looks like an unhealthy amount.

If he is in the same room as the females, then he may have to be relocated...You know the old saying.Out of sight, out of mind. (In this case it isn't sight exactly, but rather..smell)

have you tried feeding him something other then what he usually eats?

my male that went off food for a long long time finally went back to eating but will only eat mice now instead of the rats he use to eat. some reason some of them switch and I figured better he eat something since he was getting skinny.

just an option

In a month he shouldn't be loosing weight -- if you can visually see a weight loss in that short of time off feed you might want to take him in and have him checked for parasites or other illness.

one of my males went off feed for 8 months!!!! talk about a hassle, he lost some weight, but of course it was expected.

if you are to worried, make a trip the the vet.

these are ball pythons, this is their nature, get used to it.
