Ive had my Male high Calli for a few months and i still have no idea its sex, in the picture you can see the length of its tail. he/she is 27 inch’s long. if any one can figure the sex by looking at the pick it would be great.

Take it to a local herp society meeting or a store that specializes in reptiles and have them show you how to probe it. That way you can be 100% sure.

I'm no expert, but my experience with my snake suggests that going by the shape of the tail is not very reliable, at least with young individuals. My Cal king's tail looks female (tapers sharply after the vent), so for a while, I assumed I had a female.

Then one day, he stuck out his hemipenes while musking and everting the parts they usually evert. He's done this a few times since, and as he's grown larger, it's become more clear that these are definitely hemipenes.

If your snake is male, maybe you'll have the same luck. Otherwise, I think getting it probed by a herp vet or very experienced keeper is the best way to tell.

im trying to fing a herp expert in my area now. i called and exotic pets vet in my area and they wanted to charge 90$ for just making the apoitment. i was like wtf for that ill just buy another snake that i know is female or male. as for the musking, my snake is so chilled out its hard for me to get him to musk and evert, but i know he always musks and everts when i put him on my pitbull, he freaks out.lol

I would be extremely surprised if that was a female.

I've personally never seen a female Cal King with a tale that long. I'm sure may have been some, but it seems Cal Kings have very short tales compared to other colubrids - and while that tale length may be female for corn, it is far far far too long to be female for Cal King.

Also - the tale is too fat after the vent and doesn't start tapering off for 7 or 8 scales from the vent, and then it is gradual. I say it has hemi's stored in there.

Find someone who knows what they are doing to probe it. Shouldn't cost you more than $5 to $10 at a qualified pet shop, free at a herp club/society meeting.
