I don't have a lot of experience but recently purchased the Johnson and am real happy with it. When I was researching it seems that the Johnson may be easier to work out a nighttime drop. It seems you'd have to use a 24 VAC transformer wired to it and then plug that into a mechanic appliance timer. Also, I believe the Johnson is smaller. I like mine a lot but it does click on and off a lot. If it's going to be anywhere close to where you're sleeping it will drive you crazy! If I had the money I would have liked a Helix or Herpstat better. The Johnson is great for the $ and does everything it promises.
The Johnson is a great t-stat I have more rancos than I do Johnsons but I have had quite a few rancos throw the E2 code and they are basically junk after that from what I understand. But I have yet to have any problems with any of my Johnsons. If your gonna get a t-stat though I recommend the spider robotics.

i have two rancos... they work fine but they make clicking noises as they adjust to stay on temp.
if you have a big "facility", that may be no issue, but in my not a big facility, its a constant annoyance.
