Stunted Growth Question.

Coon Nov 12, 2008 05:57 AM

I just acquired a juvenile BT around 30". I am unsure of age but being this size I assume it hatched last winter(someone correct me if Im wrong, but isn't hatching season nov-jan?), which would make it small for it's age.

Can it's growth have been stunted from not enough feeding as a hatchling? The place I got it from was only feeding it 3-4 ice cube size chunks of turkey every other day, WTF??? That is terrible!!!!

I will start its new diet immedietly. Several mice a day and larger Rete's stack basking area from 120* all the way to the 160's.

Is it too late to get it back on track and growing like it should?

I will have pics up later tonight. I would also like your opinions on it's sex. To me it looks female, but the guy I got it from thinks it's male.

Ive had albigs that were given to me, sold to me, or traded. They ranged in size from 16-20 inches long, and one was 24 inches long. All were from 2.5 to almost 7 years of age (verified by the actual breeders, the former keepers). These creatures when kept in the way I keep them doubled in length and tripled in length in no time at all.
Once a friend of mine was given a WT(I didnt want it) that was 15 inches long, this creature was in the last owners care for 2 years, and the former owner had it for 5 years, it was an imported WT. This creature grew alot in decent care at my friends place in no time at all. he traded the lizard in a few months or so to someone at twice its original size.
Feed them alot, keep them hot, watch them take off and fly.
keep in mind at this friends rescue we saw a load of many species of monitor do the same thing.
Lots of rodents, and chicken peeps, add crickets and roaches as extra food if you want, but feed lots of whole animals.

Great!! Awesome answer, and just what I wanted to hear! I have a huge order of several size rodents coming next week. Until next week, he'll be eating the SDZ diet and 1 rodent daily.
