Feeding time

herpguy311 Nov 12, 2008 11:02 AM

Is it wise to remove young BRBs from their cage and place them in a separate, smaller “feeding" enclosure or will this just make them nervous. I am thinking it will put them in close contact with the prey item increasing the chance of them taking it. I have adjusted my temps on one of mine that hasn’t been eating and I am pondering doing this tonight. I have a BCC that I have done this with since birth and it works out fine, with the exception of running out of space when it comes to feeding time, but I know these are two completely different animals.
Any thoughts?

what substrate they're on. If mine are on paper towels or the like I feed in their enclosure, but if I have them on coconut fibers, etc I remove them to keep them from digesting the substrate.

Same with my BCI, if theyre on aspen I take them out, if they're on newspaper I feed them inside their cages.

I have them both on the bark substrate. I have feed my male twice in his enclosure but I put the f/t fuzzy on a limb and he got him from there. He once lost his grip I guess on one and it feel in the water bowl, and before I was able to retieve it he went in and got it! I though that was pretty amzing being as I had never witnessed such! I may try feeding him in a seperate enclosure tonight, I was just wondering if the hadling would affect his feeding since I haven't handled him much being as I am giving him time to get used to his new home. The female has refused since I got her, so maybe this will do the trick for her.

Just about everyone here is container fed. Its more work, but it gets everyone handled at least once a week and I can give them the once over to make sure nothing bad is coming on. I go against the grain and feed newcomers the day they arrive. They eat in a container, then they're put into their enclosure to chill for a week. 95% of my newbies have eaten they day they've arrived and I have yet to see a puke from it.
