Heat Pads for shipping

midnight_962002 Nov 12, 2008 10:31 PM

Hey all,

I was just wondering what heat pads you all use for shipping. I have been using the Uniheat heatpacks and I am not sure that I like them.

I usually wrap it in papertowel and lay it in the box. Redstripe up. I usually do this and then get everything ready. Tonight on a whim I put one opened in my pocket. The only reason I think it is warm is cause of my body heat.

Those are the ones I always used......I think, lol. Maybe try another one from the same batch? Or bring it outside in the cold and see if it feels warm compared to something else......or check the actual temp of it?

They can take a few hours to heat up if 60-72 hour ones........

Hey guys...Thanks for the responses.

I decided to test it out in a box. I put a temp prob in it with it sealed. It was a styro lined box that you would get from the reptile store. Outside temp was low 50's yesterday. I put it outside and it maintained 75 degrees. So then I put it in a fridge and it started to drop. It was in there for 30 mins and went down to low 60's I ran out of time on the heat pack.

I am going to test a couple of things next week to try to keep the temp up in the high 60's. I am also going to get a base test to see what the actual temp is in the fridge. It should be around the high 30's. That should help give me a better idea.

These things need an encloused area to get warm. They won't get warm sitting on a desk or anything. So was part of my problem.

We get the heat packs preheated by shaking them up well, then putting them inside a folded towel for a couple of hours before packing the shipping box. They really do best with a jump start, to get the reaction going, the towel works simple and fast.
