Hi everyone, I have loved Snakes & Lizards and all my life - In particular:
Red Tailed Boas, Burmese and Reticulated Pythons, Green Iguanas, Austrailian & Chinese Water Dragons & Frilled Dragons and Monitors.
I know what I want with the above reptiles but not yet with the Monitors. I wont be getting any until I learn all I can about all of them. I know quite a bit about snakes and lizards and how to keep them.
Looking for recommendations/advise/opinions on keeping a couple Monitors species I have narrowed it down to these (not sure what one or two) :
Savannah Monitor Varanus exanthematicus
Mangrove Monitor Varanus indicus
Nile Monitor Varanus niloticus
Water Monitor Varanus salvator
White-Throated Monitor Varanus albigularis albigularis
Emerald tree Monitor Varanus prasinus
Roughneck Monitor Varanus rudicollis

What types of Monitors

Unfortunately, none of the monitors you picked are that great of a choice for a first time monitor keeper. I'd suggest something more along the lines of ackies. Hardy, dependable, easy, don't take much room (for a monitor), and *relatively* inexpensive.
prob would not go with water, nile or tree monitor as a First monitor.... they are a challenge ( all montors are lol)
