Hi... this is Geetha from India. found this snake in my farmhouse in South India... but am unable to ID it. I was informed that it was a venomous species. Can someone ID it with the help of the image?

I haven't used picasa, so I can't tell you how to fix the problem, but it looks like you only uploaded the picture to your personal space where no one else can see it.

The only snake shown in your photo gallery (the banded one in your hand) is a Banded Kukri Snake (Oligodon arnensis). Kukri Snakes are not venomous.

It does look a little bit like a Banded Krait (Bungarus fasciatus) which may be why you heard it was venomous. It isn't a Krait.

here's the pic I am referring to (if it shows) -

Hey Chris,

Thanks a million for that information! They definitely got it confused with the banded krait. But just about 10 days back... i encountered a Krait... a common Krait. By mistake i actually stepped on it! Unfortunately for it, i stepped on its head... it was a little hurt but fine. But cuz i stepped on the head... it wasn't able to bite me. Else... the story would have been different! It was a beautiful snake though... awesome and deadly to look at! Once again... thanks for all the help!

Geetha
