I have some friends who say they have a bearded dragon who has a yellow crusty in one of the ear pits on their young beardie. Is this an ear infection or what is it? Does anyone know what it might be?

To be honest, only thing I suggest, is take the dragon to a vet or at least get a picture. Saying a yellow crusty is in his ear....could be anything from a piece of unshed skin or a serious ear infection.

I Understand, like I said before, he is not mine, and I havent actually seen it, the people just called me to ask me about it. There is not a herp vet around here. If it is an ear infection what would help it or the treatment for it. Would it just need antibiotics or what? Whatever advice I could get would be helpfull. I dont keep beardies.
If its just a peice of skin it can be removed with no issue.
If he has an ear infection then only a vet can recomend appropriate treatment - there are many antibiotics, different routes of administration, and length of course.
Sometimes good herp vets are hard to find and you often have to drive pretty far for them (2 hours for me), but its worth it.
Your friends can check www.arav.com (or maybe .org i forget) or www.herpvetconnection.com if there are no entries within a few hours of them then i recomend calling local clinics and finding out where they refer their herps to.

with the information you provided there is nothing we can advise. Have your friend create an account here and post a much more detailed description of what is wrong with his dragon, including all the details of his setup.
If he can't get online, then you will have to get all that information. Till we have more information we can't give you any useful advice other than tell your friend to take his dragon to a qualified reptile vet. If no reptile vets are available, then use a regular vet. It doesn't hurt to have contact numbers for reptile vets to give to the normal vet. He can call and consult with them.
Even if one of us here on the forums is a qualified reptile vet, they would not advise any treatment without much more details if not examining the animal themselves personally.
Besides, if the problem the the ear is an infection, you can't buy antibiotics over the counter anyway, so he will have to go to a vet to get them anyway. But without a proper diagnostics...there isn't anything we can suggestion you tell your friend other than take it to a vet or give far more details.
