Snake wont come out of rock....

jenlb714 Nov 13, 2008 08:50 PM

Ok so I got an albino corn from someone who was just going to release it into the garden by her apartment. Since she had an ad on Craigslist, I thought I would talk to her about the snake. This is when she told me that she was going to let it go because she couldnt have it at her new place.

So I brought it home on Monday night(late, no stores open) and refilled her water dish(it was bone dry). I ended up filling the water twice and its a big enough dish for her to take a bath in. Then on Tuesday, I went and got her a new heat lamp(the original owner didnt have one for her because her son broke it who knows when, I would have gotten her one on Monday but the stores were closed by the time I got her). I also picked up a feeder mouse for her because the lady said she needed to be fed.

So I set up the heat lamp and fed her(which she grabbed the mouse in mid-air because she was so hungry!). Since she has eaten, she crawled into her rock and has not come out except when i forced her out to see that she was ok, but she went right back in as soon as I left her alone.

Anyone know what could be wrong with her, if anything? I mean, I have only had her for less than a week so I dont really know what she is like for the days following feedings but of all the snakes I have had, none have crawled into a hole and stayed there. Any suggestions on what I can do to get her to come out on her own so I dont have to keep bothering her everyday to see that she is alright.

First off... Good job saving this snake!! Second, what snakes do best is hide. Leave him alone and in a few days/weeks he will become more comfortable with his new home and come out more often.

Good Luck!!

Mike's right, corn snakes spend most of their time hiding. In addition, albinos are sensitive to light. You may want to consider getting a heating pad instead of a lamp or getting a red or black bulb for the lamp. This will increase your chances of seeing the snake.

Nice job with the rescue!

I dont have a lamp, I have a ceramic heat bulb so light shouldnt be a problem, I was just worried that since she didnt take good care of the snake, that she might be sick. Thats all I was trying to find out.
