Condensation on eggs

MikeMurphy Nov 16, 2008 02:38 PM

Has anyone had condensation on their eggs? I just checked my suboc eggs and noticed some condensation on them in all three containers from two different females. I'm pretty sure it's because I went out of town on Saturday so I unplugged the incubator (I don't trust it not to malfunction and cook the eggs) then when I got back at around noon today I plugged it back in. The temp only got down to 70 while it was unplugged. But then it goes back up to 82 when I plugged it back in and it probably went up pretty fast. So I'm guessing it's from that. I left the tops of the containers off for now to let it dry out a little. Anyone else seen this before? Thanks.

Although I can't speak from experience as far as Subocs, I have had condensation occur on lots of colubrid eggs right before they hatch.

Thanks for the reply. they look fine now after I left the lids off for a bit to get rid of some of the moisture.

Nice web site BTW!

Mike I've never seen that before on any of my trans-pecos eggs or other eggs but I'm guessing the same as you that is was due to the rapid temp increase.

I see condensation in boxes after a cooling of temps but not increases........were they wet after cooling ? and before you turned it back on?....

anyways......IF they are sweating due to dieing...you'll smell it....other than that.....keep an eye on them .....

good luck......

The air is going to heat up more quickly then the eggs. Warm moist air and a cooler surface = condensation. It shouldn't be a problem.

That's what I figured. thanks for all the replies. They seem fine. No more condensation and they look perfectly healthy. I'll post pics when they hatch. thanks. Mike
