my eastern kingsnake won't eat

snakesrule911 Nov 16, 2008 08:00 PM

We found a young eastern kingsnake in our school, and have decided to make him a pet. He ate a frozen (thawed) pinkie when he was at school, and one when we brought him home. But he has not eaten in the last three weeks. We are getting worried. What should we do?

He's probably ready to brumate (hibernate).
You may look through some threads here, a lot of people new to snakes ask the same question this time of year. It's just doing what comes naturally.

You might want to share what his setup is. How is it being kept?

First off, you are the one who supports your snake. You must provide conditions that allow your snake to live and feed.

Snakes require a set of temps and a set of humidity. The most important is humidity, if they get to dry, they quickly stop feeding. It does not matter what temps are, in this case.

So you want to offer your snake a secure humid(50 to 70%)area with little to no air movement(drys them out). As well as choices of temps(65F to 100F. If you do that, your snake will grow and feed all year.

Open top(screen) tanks are the death of many reptiles. Particularly in winter. Good luck
