Mean Lately...

domingos Nov 16, 2008 11:13 PM

My '07 male corn has always been docile. For the past two weeks, it seems to be pacing it's cage and follows me with its eyes everytime I walk in the room. On a few occasions, when I put my hand in the cage, it follows me with its mouth open, but has not struck yet. I have switched its feed from two fuzzies to a hopper mouse every five days (it is fed outside the cage with metal tongs).

Can it be that it is still hungry? Mating season? Just in a bad mood?

It wants to eat. Sometimes it doesn't matter if you feed it in a seperate enclosure, if the snake associates you with food, it may come after you with its mouth open. It's not being mean though - just hungry.

Having said that, just because it wants to eat doesn't mean that you should feed it. I've seen a lot of overweight corns. If you are feeding it one food item that is the same width as the widest part of the snake and you are feeding it every 5 days, I'd stick with that schedule.

You might want to use a snake hook to remove the snake from it's cage. Once it's out of its cage and being held, there's a pretty good chance that it will lose its inclination to bite.
