Hognose help, Right forum?

Turncoat Nov 17, 2008 08:29 AM

I've had my hognose for about a year a little less. My tank set up is as follows...
here
It has a Uv light on it, and my house temp. is around 68-72 degrees.

Alright now the problem...
As its getting colder outside whether that matters or not my Hognose has stopped eating for nearly 1.5months now. I usually feed him pinkies and he has been eating them to this point he was few weeks post hatching when I got him and currently he is about 8 inches long. Kind of stuck my main question is should I get him a heat lamp and lose the shavings.Or any other suggestions?

(I was told up to this point that he didn't need a heat lamp but idk.)

I personally would move him to a smaller container(if its a hatchling a 6 qt shoe box or less) and some heat tape or a heat pad.

I use Aspen shavings.

Get him up to about 80-85 and he should start eating again in a week or two. Although it is OK for them to go off feed this time of year I usually let them eat on up to a good size then start the cooling down, etc. That is all up to you, really.

I wouldn't worry about him to much - just make sure to monitor his weight, and make sure water is avail. Just be patience and persistent and he will come around for you.

Best,
Derek
