snake temps

hunger143 Nov 18, 2008 08:25 AM

hello everyone- i have a couple of questions i need to get answered. ok

what is the lowest temp a ball python should ever reach weither breeding or not?

if you put a lazer temp gun on the snake and it reads 68 degrees is the snake temp on the inside of the snake---- say 10 degrees more inside?

what temp using a temp gun should a ball be during the day and also during the night for breeding?

sorry about these questions but i know someone that is doing this and they dont listen to advice at all from me. they just listen to what they read from big breeder pk and rd and try to implement what they wrote.

its an ars rack system. the probe is on the heat panel underneath each tub. daytime its set at 96 which makes it 80 something in the tub and at night she drops it to 86 on the panel which makes it low 70's on the hot spot. trying to tell her its to low and that she dont want the snakes to get sick- but all i hear is ralph does this and pete does that.....

Ralph Davis has a custom built, climate controlled room for his snakes. Unless your friend has that luxury, then there's probably something wrong. Generally speaking, warm side temps should be around 88-92 and cool side temps should be around 78-82. Unless your friend is planning on breeding, I dont really see a point to dropping the temp 10 degrees at night. With my prior set up, I had trouble maintaining good temps and one of my snakes got sick because of it.

I have vision racks and I keep my temps at 95 which in the tub makes it 89 in the back of the tub and they move around and keep themselves about 84 degrees.
