I was wondering if you still use dimmer switches on your plastic cages?, i know you use to use them on your wood cages. the reason i ask is that i have a stack of your 4 footers, and the bottom one is up to 4 degrees difference than my top one, they are all plugged into a helix. i was wondering how i can get all the cages pretty much the same temp? i'd be grateful for any advice. thanks, joe

I am no boaphile but I would say 4 degrees difference in a hot spot is very tolerable. If you want to get closer try moving your probe to a different cage.

Congratulations on your cage set up.

I use two different thermostats on my cages .

One just for the two bottom cages.

Good Luck.

I use a Double Ranco set up now for all my cages. I use one thermostat set up for bottom cages and another for the other cages because of the slight differences in temperatures. The thing to know is the lower the temperature in your room, the greater those temperature differences will be. That being said, an inexpensive way to even things out would be to use dimmer switches. I would not see a problem with that if a thermostat is running the bank of cages and you just use the dimmer to trim down the temp in the warmer cages so the cooler ones can catch up. That would be fine. Home Depot sells an inexpensive in line dimmer switch too and one that I think is already built into an extension cord. You could use that if dimming several cages. Remember, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
