Will an Olive python use a basking shelf

Bill S. Nov 18, 2008 05:16 PM

Hi.

I'm thinking about getting a cage with a basking shelf for my Olive python. Part of the shelf would have part of a radiant heat panel over it.

Has anyone provided a shelf for their Olive? Does it use the shelf?

Thanks.

Bill

Bill,
Not sure about the basking on the shelf, but it'll probably get some use out of it- they are very active at times!

On RARE occasions, my smaller olives (5-6') will sit on top of their hide boxes, but the 8-9 footers don't. A basking shelf for the 12' male??? lol

Yes, They will love it! Give them all the room you can! My 9-11 foot female uses the hide on a shelf more then any other hide and the male in the pictures 8-9 feet sits like a green tree python on a branch. Try different things see what works for you and your snakes!

Great pics, Tom!

My male is somewhere in between 8' and 9', but still hasn't put on the girth, and his head has a long way to go yet...

Tom trains his Olives to do that, lol. I think a lot has to do with where the heat source is. And they seem too start to bulk up around 10' or so.

Nice!

How thick is the branch?
