Feeding during breeding?

slacker6848 Nov 18, 2008 07:25 PM

Do you guys attempt to feed during breeding? or just leave them together and let them do their thing and not try untill you seperate them for next season?

Thanks
Zack

Last season (my first), I waited for a break in courting/breeding and seperated them for feeding. I gave smaller meals than normal and put them back together after at least 24 hours to avoid feeding accidents. They usually went back at it after digesting. I think the male in particular appreciated the recharge meal.
Best of luck!

I'm seperating monthly for a snack, smaller than typical, wait a couple of days band re-introduce.

Of course if the male is actually wrapped, I wait for an opportune time. I never pull a male that either is attempting or could actually be copulating.

Each of my pairings has three record cards, on top is the pairing card with details on breeding, stiff like introduced, wrapped, copulations observed, seperated for feeding, pre ovulation swell, ovulation and female shed dates. The individual animal cards are behind that with all feed and shed data.

I find it much easier to refer back to then try to remember the details.

ok Thanks, I introduced the male saturday and found out my other "male" was really a female so I pulled her due to her size because my sunglow was trying to breed with her, that happened Sunday, then Monday I caught the sunglow breeding with the other female which is 14lbs and 6 1/2' and I caught him breeding her again lastnight

Thanks
Zack
