never mind...i went to their website and answered my own question..
according to their site, you should only use them with glass tanks.

I have one under my "display tank" and even through the glass and humid hide (sterilite box) on top of it it gets about 90 degrees. I'm pretty sure without that layer of glass it'd be too hot. You could always use a rheostat (sp) though.

I have never had a problem using them with plastic. I only use the small ones (10 to 20 gal) and I make sure that the bottom of the cage is either raised slightly over the heat pad so it is not touching the bottom, or the bottom is ventilated some how. I have 6 of them running with plastic tubs and never have had anything happen. I just watch the temps like a hawk when I first get it set up.
Hope this helps

the mini stle uth's by zoomed are safe for plastic, they can even be used for the plastic critter keepers, apparently the bigger ones will melt the plastic though. you will probably need a rheostat however because they can get very hot. Cant wait till they just start making them with a control on the cord like the new light domes... that would be spiffy.
