So hard to get a good pic...

AbsoluteApril Nov 19, 2008 12:06 PM

I just need to read the manual and continue to practice, practice, practice.

Recently adopted *as a pet only* this beautiful little sunglow that lost an eye shortly after birth. We named her Captain Jack.

It was her feeding day and so I decided to snap a few pics before her meal. Sadly my skills are lacking with this finepix camera, but I will never give up!
With flash:

Covered flash with hand, gave an odd red hue:

No flash, indoor light, in shadow, always comes out fuzzy:

No flash, indoor light, some shadow:

On a side note, it is very interesting to watch how she moves and behaves due to only having one eye. She keeps the blind side against her enclosure, herself or toward where she has been, always turning her good eye forward. She is a little shy and a little defensive, but not as bad as I would have expected. She takes her f/t rat pups with gusto.
Thanks for looking (and thanks M!)

She looks great April. I'm glad she found a good home as a pet only.

I don't mind that people know I produced a one eyed sunglow. Actually she was born with two eyes, but one started to bulge right after birth. I think we can all learn things by getting this information out there. I was surprised that there was an eye issue with this litter as it was a het x poss dh sunglow. Too bad she was the only albino or sunglow in the litter as she has very nice color.

BTW, do you still have the hypo girl too? How's she doing?

I think she is beautiful .Plus I question if genetic problems are always to blame for such issues.Personally I don't think they are.I seem to remember back in '04 or '05 maybe I believe it was J.Dubay bred a completely blind Albino I think even with another Albino hard to remember.I do know a perfect litter was produced.
Ever since that result I've wondered exactly what is happening.
I bet that little Sunglow could grow up and produce many perfect litters .
Then those babies would produce many perfect litters.
Of course I maybe completely wrong about this opinion.

Hi Lar,

you could very well be right, there is so much we don't understand about their genetics. It could very easily have been a small infection or something as well.

Personally I'll not take the chance. I've only got a small collection with very limited specific breeding trials planned, but this girl is just a pet and will never be bred. I'm just happy to finally have a sunglow.
Take care,
April

I agree. I'd breed her!

Of course you have produced some number of babies with problems. The more babies you do produce the more likely you are to have some with "problems" I know I've produced my share, from a lil tail kink to missing an eye to bad enough it had to be put down.

If it's a viable animal, able to live out a decent life, I eventually place it with some loving family as a pet.

Hi Matt,
Yup, still got that girl too, she's not going anywhere. I named her Paprika for the bright red coloration she has. I like the line of black specs on her laterals, gives a nice contrast with the background color. Don't have any recent pics of her, but here's a couple from when she got home:

She just ate last night, so I'll get some updated pics in a few days.
Thanks again!

Matt
im sure its the kahl strain of albinos, since its weak its very common to have eye deformities even with het. breedings. No big deal what a nice looking snake.

I think the pics look nice, of course it's always hard to capture the true color. I have literally taken almost 35,000 pics with my digital camera, practice DOES help!!!

I take so many pics that the snake starts to get annoyed, then I get frustrated, then the pics get worse... lol
I remember 10 years ago I used to take rolls of film and get 2 or 3 good pics and see all that money flying out the door for processing. Thank goodness for digital!

April:

It's been too long without hearing from you.

What a beautiful little sunglow, and the photos are just fine.

I get one decent photo for every ten taken of my animals.

It's great see a post from you.

Please say Hi to Jesse for me.

Best of luck with the 09 season.

Brian

I haven't been around much online (what's wrong with me!). heh After the holidays I'll finally get internet set up at home.

I've got one pairing planned this year but haven't put them together yet, will do so in a week after the meals are digested and then just keep my fingers crossed. Good luck with your season, I can't wait to see what you pop out this time!
Take care,
April
