New Morphs to Big Name Breeders

mikenna May 24, 2003 04:27 AM

I want to thank everyone on this forum for being such ass's. I have quite a few things that will only be revealed and make available to the big name breeders for a couple of reasons. Of few morphs of which have never been made public yet. But kiss my ass, you will only hear about them from some big name breeders. Why would I try to market a new morph that looks to good to be true to a bunch of close minded, giving the herp world a bad name, people. Doesn't make sense to me.

1) Have you every seen a big name breeder bad mouth anyone on a public forum? Think about it, it makes you look worse than the person you are attacking. That is all it is, an attack! Don't make a name for yourself as a basher, it is counter productive.

2) I have never seen such closed minded people in my life. I have animals that I am working with that I'm sure someone on this forum would say if fabricated. Why go through all that for those that only want to bitch. Get a life. This is a real world profession for many reptile lovers. Just because you can't afford or don't want to play the game gives you no right to judge anyone else. Grow up.....

I think that even if you don't believe what you're seeing there are a lot more professional and grownup ways to go about it than to flame somebody. The guy admitted he came across it in unusual circumstances, doesn't deal much with pythons, and will give a money back guarantee. What more do you want?

In my experience with leopard geckos I have to say I have seen people come across some pretty strange things. What's to say a red gene wasn't expressed this time due to stress on the eggs, strange breeding, mutation??

I'm not saying I am convinced, but I'm not dead set against this being legit either, and I think it's a pretty big way to put your neck out when you've only seen a picture.

Not to mention, this guy has had them for 4 days. What if the lady who had them dyed them and he had no idea? I think he has taken enough steps to make sure people get what they pay for or get their money back. I'm personally excited to see what happens here because I think that if it is true and then breeds true as well we have a beautiful snake on our hands.

It is sad that the herp community has been made this cynical by people getting cheated.

Money back guarantees are worthless when the person dissapears and you find out at a later point that you don't have enough information to obtain restitution.

The situation is odd enough to warrant some suspicion, the snakes' appearance and the questionable features of the photograph make it worthy of additional scrutiny, the fact the individual in question has a history of misrepresenting animals in deals makes it deserving of an in depth analysis and some serious questions about the origin of these animals.

In the thread below this one, I offered and continue to offer a way to validate his claims despite my skeptisism, I'm sure others would do the same if asked...

If he simply provides the contact information for the wholesaler he claims to have obtained them from and the story can be verified then he's in the clear and will end up generating additional revenue for himself (never a bad thing)while removing the questions of others.

In addition to that, if these were two animals from a single clutch and they ARE legitimate, the clutchmates and mother just became quite valuable as well, again additional income for himself and those who have done him this favor.

If he refuses to provide the relevant information, while it is not something that will prove guilt, it most certainly is additional suspicious behavior. People are judged by how they act, redemption must be earned, it is not given without hard work and dedication to prove that the past misdeeds were an anomaly.

I've recently had to become very defensive in my ads and postings in this forum. Something I regret but because I was attacked for posting cherry picked balls at more than $10 or $20 I have no choice. I'm trying to defend my good reputation. One that I have worked very hard at developing over the last 8 years of breeding and selling snakes. My personal experience with big name breeders is that they avoid the controversy, sit back, and watch us battle but don't get involved. One on one at the shows, some bashing does go on. Your right, they don't want to develop a reputation for bashing. They want to be known for their honesty and integrity. Just like those of us that are willing to work hard to be successful in this hobby.
The $$$ in this hobby/business has attracted some less than desirable individuals, both resellers and new hobbyist. Those that seek overnight success, instant riches, etc. If you've got a new morph, a new product, and it's one that you have created, then you should not have any problem bringing it to market. Anyone that invest the time, effort, and $$$ to create something new will have the pics and data to show their work.
Take a look at these pics. When I found this female I just had to have her. I paid extra $$$ for this unknown. I took a few pics and sent them to Dan and Colette and asked their opinion. I got the right answer and advice. I will have to raise it, breed it, and possibly breed a male offspring back to this female to know for sure. If she turns out to be something, I will have no problem bringing it to market because I'll have the pics and data to show my work. If nothing comes of the project, oh well, at least it was fun and educational. Not every different looking ball is a new morph but you have to work the project to know.
I agree with you that it has gotten a little out of hand but I believe there are a lot of frustrated hobbyist/breeders out there that don't want to see this great hobby / business ruined.
Just my 2 cents.
Hope you like the pics. Comments are welcome.

Last pic of this project for now.

Nice post John, best of luck proving out the ball in the photo. Looks like a project worth doing for sure. I also found an import with a white spot on the top of the head like yours but the white seems to be fading away. Mine doesn't have the white within the line that goes through the eye like yours however. She also has a few clusters of silver/grey scales down her back, she is strange and I plan on working more with her offspring someday. Again good luck!! By the way is it a male or female, mine is a female. Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles.

People have a right to respond to SCAMMERS!!! I do this for a living myself and have produced more Ball Pythons than most and frankly this kind of CRAP is bad for the industry.... You can complain all you like but it is true. Anyone who tries cheating people like that should be told he/she is wrong. The "big name" breeders agree I'm sure , the reason they don't respond is that they have more important things to do than hold everyones hand. By the way if you have new morphs that's great, prove them out and add them to the list!!!!! Call it attacks all you want sometimes the truth hurts man!!!!! Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles.

Part of the issue, is that this guy was selling a blantly obvious normal as a pastel two days ago. Do dumb things, you get bashed. It was ridiculous, the guy doesn't even seem to know how to sex a snake.
