Mealworms same or seperate calcium dish?

Omnivorous Nov 19, 2008 02:31 PM

So I have been told its a good idea to keep a little bit of calcium powder in a small dish in the tank for my leo.

Just a little capfull right?

How long until the calcium goes bad and I need to replace it?

Currently I feed him a mix of crickets and mealworms. Switching between them to give him some variety. When I do feed him mealworms should I put them in a seperate dish or just throw them in the same dish the calcium powder is in so that he winds up eating some when he eats the mealworms?

Thanks

One guy suggested put the mealworms in with the calcium powder that way he eats the calcium when he eats the mealworms. Another guy said putting the mealworms in wiht the calcium will wind up killing the mealworms and then the leo wont want to eat them.

The mealworms will not last as long with the calcium in the dish. Leos are not stupid and will eat the calcium from the dish by itself if they need it. I've personally seen a couple of my leos almost bury their head in the calcium and eat it.

I tried putting the mealworms in with tha calcium dish and when I woke up the next morning all the mealworms were dead. So now I put them in a seperate dish with no problems.
