Is it OK to use the bulk stuff from Home Depot?
Thanks!

Yes, as long as it is pure cypress with no other source of wood and contains no chemical additives. I use the plain non-colored cypress for most of my rainbows. Check it for mold/fungus and gnats before purchasing.

I use the stuff from Home Depot, but it's Cypress Blend (Timberline, I believe is the brand, has a yellow label) so not all cypress. I have never had a problem with it, and I use it for my ball pythons, boas and the corn snake.

All of the bags @ Home Depot/Lowe's say wood and added color as the only "ingredients", I definately don't want to use anything detrimental, should I stick with the horrifically overpriced pet store mulch?

I have always used cypress(& even eucalyptus...) They sell natural versions (without the color)at almost all home improvement store. I have never had a problem at all. And you can also get cheaper versions of the 'reptibark', i think its called, there too, normally sold as orchid bark, or labeled for potting orchids. It is actually just chopped up fir tree bark I believe.

There is no real reason I know of to spend that kind of money @ the pet stores (though someone may have one...) Just make sure to get the stuff that has no chemical treatments and no color added...
