HELP! Lost Grey-banded!

jazmaniandevil Nov 20, 2008 01:45 AM

Phoebe, my grey-banded king who's probably only a year old, got out of her tank within the last two days. There is only one heat register she could get into but it's up 7 7inch carpeted stairs in the kitchen, where there is also a toasty fridge. There are only two other places she could go. Outside (where it was about 55 two days ago and now it's below freezing), where she would have to feat three cement 8inch stairs to get outside or into a very large wood pile. Also in the crawlspace under our house, where there is a furnace, but it's very dusty in there and we didn't notice any snake tracks around the only warm place. It is winter and she's been funny about feeding, could she have possibly sought out a more secure location to hibernate? Is it possible for her to climb all those stairs? I mean it was about six inched from her thermometer boost on her tank to the lip, so plausible? What are some good traps to set for her to find (humid hides, etc.) Please help! If she got outside she definitely won't be making it through a montana winter!

every snake that has escaped on me has remained in the same room or darn close. My last episode involved my pueblan, and she crossed the hallway and entered my linen closet where she was chillin under some blankets.

try putting baking soda along the baseboards and doors to check for tracks. Try putting some food out. Also, try placing his hides on the floor, he might seek out a familiar smell.

There have been other hints offered here, but i don't remember them all. Try searching "help" or "lost snake"

Wow good luck, I hope you find your snake. I don't know about climbing stairs, but I wanted to mention something just because it happened to me. I had a not-small snake that I thought escaped. Couldn't find her anywhere. Turns out she had gone inside a void/cavity in one of her hides (it was a fake coral type thing actually made for fish tanks). She was WAY up inside the thing. So I know it sounds stupid, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any type of cavity - even if it's smaller than you think would be possible - inside the tank that she might be hiding. Good luck.

crawling across my living room floor 2 days after she'd escaped... she wasn't more then 3 feet from her cage, she had crawled into the bottom lining on the chair beside her and was looking for water when I found her...

When I picked her up and put her back in her cage she went straight to her water dish and drank... So I feel safe in assuming she was searching for water... She may have just been looking for a more secure place to hide while I was out of the house and had the dog with me...

I once lost my yellow rat for about 9 days. When I found him in my daughter's backpack and placed him in his enclosure, he drank for no less than 5 minutes straight. I don't think he enjoyed his freedom very much!

I've found my splendida's and MBK's clear across the house, as well as within 2-3' of their enclosure, so could be anywhere...

Think of it as a good opportunity to improve on your flippin' skillz.
