Shed Issue

mwrinkle Nov 20, 2008 01:20 PM

The animal as an adult hasn't shed since August and since the weather change has been slightly brumating. The last two days I have noticed it shaking its left leg vigorously. Suspecting the possibility of mite irritation I gave her a long soak to see if any thing floated off or any migration to the head to escape drowning and didn't notice anything. Upon closer inspection of the right rear foot, it is an off color compared to the other feet except for one toe. It looks as if maybe during the last shed not everything came off because on the normal looking toe at the base I was able to peal some skin from the foot. Is there anything beisdes some water soaks that will help loosen the shed?

Use a damp paper towel and gently rub against the area. Try not to apply any finger pressure, just fold the towel and pinch the ends. This is a last resort tip for an area of shed that is lingering and really looking irritable to the dragon. I think a good soak for 10-15min is still the best way.

If the remaining skin is shed and the leg twiching/shaking still persists, you probably have a greater problem at hand.

mineral oil or baby oil can help loosen sheds. However by 'shaking' do you mean he is actually lifting her leg and shaking it or is he standing and the leg is twitching? A twitching leg is more a sign of lack of calcium than anything.
