Are you an Axanthic or Hypo person?

EmberBall Nov 20, 2008 07:08 PM

Some time ago, I was contimplating buying a Ghost or Sunglow Boa. I went a different route, Arabesque Het Albino, but I did find out I was a Sunglow person, not a Ghost person. I like brighter snakes, not darker.

So, I am obviously a Hypo person when it comes to Ball Pythons, and am honestly surprised how many people LOVE Axanthics. Don't get me wrong, I have Axanthics, and obviously Hypos for that matter, but really find the Hypo crosses much more pleasing.

So, are you more impressed with the Axanthic or Hypo?

PS-the Ghost male in the first pic was stolen after a breeding loan, and is probably still out there....maybe near North Carolina???

Axanthic fo sho! I really like contrasting colors and hypo just fades out the black so it doesn't seem to contrast as much with the other colors.

For me its gotta be Hypos. This year I produced a Pewter, a Bumble Bee, 2 Spiders, 5 Pastels and 3 Super Pastels all het for Hypo plus a handful of normal hets. Hypo improves every morph it touches. Axanthics are cool, especially the pied and Spider crosses, but I have yet to buy one. Maybe next year. JP

Axanthic! I love the black and white and grayscale inbetween. I think my favorite cross is the axanthic pied.

Well Im more of a contrast person so I would have to say axanthic
Heres a pic of a ghost girl I produced this year along with an Jolliff axanthic I produced. I prefer VPI axanthic but I have to say this Jolliff axanthic has proved me wrong about them not holding theor color, btw these pics are about 2 months old.

Heres an older pic of my VPI axanthic girl shes almost going to make it this year but not quite.

Heres a pic of my VPI breeder male

Here are a couple of pics of my breeder ghost girls

I guess I would be in the hypo category since I just love color. The brighter the better. Contrast helps, too, but mainly in that it makes the color stand out.

I like some of the hypo crosses...don't get me wrong...but I see so much potential with the axanthic crosses....that's my vote

I gotta agree, axanthics make some AMAZING combos, (killer bee axanthics anyone? That's my dream morph right now) and to top it off, I think the potential of axanthic combos has barely skimmed the surface. VPI axanthics all the way.

How about a Desart Ghost person? (Axanthic Ghost)

Deron Nov 21, 2008 01:54 AM

That is a tough one , I am going with the Axanthic, but only if it is a VPI. This is a pic of a ghost and the VPI axanthic some of the "07's"

That is a product of two double het for VPI yellow ghost and the VPI original ghost. I have not seen another like that as of yet. That pairing produced three different styles of ghost. I got the group of double hets and a female ghost that was produced from that pairing. that group has been producing some wacked out balls. I even produced some triple hets last year using an axanthic male to the female ghost that is carrying both strains. Oh yeah its getting interesting. Thanks, Deron

I myself would love to see how the breedings go. They are hot damn gorgeous! Please keep us informed!

Axanthic without a doubt! VPI axanthic...As per axanthic combos, I still can't get over that axanthic pied. Axanthic pastels are NICE too.....How about desert ghosts?

Shadow4108 Nov 21, 2008 06:07 AM

I have to agree, I really like the axanthics as well, and one day I will have an axanthic pied..

dmasio13 Nov 21, 2008 07:52 AM

Desert ghost is a project Ive been working on for 3 years now. I bought a 100% het male from Prehistoric Pets 3 years ago and got him to go with 1 female in the 06/07 season. That female produced 4 eggs and WOW all 4 were females, they are all between 500-1000 grams so Im keeping my fingers crossed that at least the biggest girl will go next season. But I bred the same 100% het male to 4 different females this past season and I now have 14 poss het desert ghost females that Im raising up to prove out. So wish me luck.

The VPI Axanthic is an amazing snake by itself. Like many have said, I think the potential for the axanthic morph is huge.

This pic is from NERD. How can anybody not drool over this snake?
