geckoejon Nov 20, 2008 09:25 PM

hello everyone! i have a pair of 07' w.s. brooksi. female is axantic and the male is het for ax. they are both right at 4 ft. pits are my thing and these are my first kings :0) i've had them since they were hatchlings and they have been a joy to raise

1. do any of you all have success breeding brooksi without brumation? if so, could you please share a little info? i know i asked this like a year ago, but am looking for some more info (positives and negatives)

2. how large are your biggest brooksi? i'm talking about actually in or was in your posesion, not "i heard froma guy who heard from a guy..." know what i mean? if you could post some adult pics i would very much enjoy them :0) thanks...

I feed my Florida kings through-out the brumation period. They are in a room that gets cold and I leave the heat tape ON on one end. When they feed they sit on the heat to digest . After they digest they sit on the cold side.

Males get much larger than females but I have no idea of record length or weight.

is something like 82" for one found at Orange Lake. It would actually be a Florida/Eastern intergrade in that area.

The largest one I've caught and measured with serpwidgets was 66" or so. I've seen one or two that were supposedly six feet, but I don't think that was an accurate measurement.

You should see the size of the trout I caught ...

thanks for the feedback. so, the males get larger than the females? hmm...so far, my female is still larger than my male. he has about caught up though. she was the largest in her clutch and was much larger when i got them.

thanks for the info about the feeding. i think i might go that route also. let the temps drop, keep feeding, and leave the heat tape on. sounds like a winner to me.

i saw a brooksi at daytona that was very nearly as thick as a tennis ball and proportionate length. the guy just had a small table but had several different very nice brooksi morphs including some bright red ones. i didn't catch his name though. i didn't catch how long it was. he had it on display. when i saw it i thought "nice, i wonder if mine will get that big" i guess after hearing from you all one that big is rare. by the way, this isn't a fishing story there funky :0)
