Breeding size question

viperbitex Nov 21, 2008 11:13 AM

Hello!

I have an '05 male DH sunglo that just doesn't want to grow. He's super healthy, eats like a champ, never had a bad shed...but he's only maybe 3' long. I have him in a 222 Vision. He eats a small rat every week.

I have an '03 female het albino. She's a moooose. Easy 5' getting close to 6' and fat. She eats one large rat 2x a month. She's in a custome build 4Lx3Wx1.5T cage.

My question: Is he too small to breed with her? I worry that she'll smother him! I put them together last year and they didn't do anything but cuddle. She has grown so much since last year, over a foot! But he's lucky to have gained 4 inches. I'm leary to feed him more then I am right now, should I try 2 small rats?....he's WAY too small for a medium.

Advise please!!

He's plenty big/old enough now. Last year would been a coin flip and looks like you lost on that one.

Awesome, thank you! Do you think I should offer him more food though? He is satisfied on what I'm giving him now, but I'm a paranoid mom and I want to make sure I give me "kids" the best. I would rather him gain legnth then girth....did I mention I'm a woman (sorry, bad joke) and I've read and been told that power feeding effects the animal in that it never reaches it's full length potential but will gain the same weight. Like it'll he would max out at 5 feet as opposed to getting 6 or a female would max out at 6 feet instead of 8 , you know? But weigh the same as a snake 2 feet longer. Also that power feeding lowers their life expectancey. Anyone care to shed some light on this subject?
