switzer Reptiles

We recently purchased 2 Black and White Argentine Tegus from Switzer Reptiles. When we ordered them we got really good customer service from Linda. The Tegus were so tame and healthy that we ordered 4 more the next week. They were excatly how she described them. They were excellent quality and i would reccomend her Tegus to anyone. We also just ordered 2 bearded dragons from her and they are really tame and healthy. We were very impressed with the quality and tameness of her reptiles. I highly recommend Switzer Reptiles to anyone looking for a reptile.
(Thanks Linda,
Jason from Utah)

When I first got into monitors, I thought my monitors would be come tame too. Then I saw that only keeping them like a snake would give me those results.

I disagree.

Yes, if you definition of tame is "sitting on your couch and watching tv with you" then you will be disappointed in keeping monitors, because the only way to get one of those is by keeping it poorly.

I think monitors can become used to and accept your presence, minimizing stress and backlash. However, this is usually achieved through a ton of time and patience. If you plan on having a tame monitor by leaving it in a cage and throwing it food every once in a while, forget about it.

My monitors are somewhat flighty. They have serious attitudes, and just about tolerate my presence, unless I have food. Interaction with them results in hissing, displays of aggression, and occasional tail whips.

In my opinion, that is a healthy monitor... full of heart. A "dog tame" monitor just does not seem normal.

So then you don't disagree. It is not MY definition of tame. It is THE definition of tame. Domesticated. Tame with monitors is only a ruse for keeping them in poor conditions.

My male ackie walks over to me when I open the window sometimes and crawls out onto me...tame? No. HE pysically interacts with me, not vise-versa.

I guess we are saying the same thing. But then, by using the definition, monitors are never tame no matter what conditions you keep them.

Some Reptiles Will tolerate us handling them. That is what they do. Tolerate it. I have seen unhealthy monitors mean and nasty and yet i have seen healthy monitors calm. I guess it varies from animal to animal and how much handling they can tolerate Monitors Rule.

I have CB monitors that really do like to interact with you.... they are as healthy as you may see! SOme tend to be little beast while others sit there and think! But, it has a lot to do with the species....

but I also have a bunch of friendly Tokay geckos!

I think the term tolerant fits a wild animal that is curious, enjoys the presence of a human that they have grown to trust. Years ago I stopped keeping WC pets.
I have had some very inquisitive, tolerant, calm, confident, CBB monitors that seem to enjoy my presence and interacting with them.
Maybe to say that they are tame for a monitor, would be a better way to describe them, lol.

We are very much on the same page, yes.
