Turtle biologists seek BAN in Florida

OHI Nov 22, 2008 06:54 AM

All,

I am so sick of the animal rights banning agenda of academics and biologists. They are pushing hard in Florida. Check out this article:

http://www.tallahassee.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008811200324

Do you think they will stop with turtles? Do you think it is fair to the turtle collectors and breeders? Where is PIJAC and USARK or any other group defending our rights? Somebody should be all over this like flies on ......
I wish I had the time and money to fight all this banning agenda. Please send an email to: Commissioners@MyFWC.com
and tell them not to BAN harvest nor sales of wild turtles. The problem is that the biologists are lying and saying there is no sustainable harvest amount but there is. This crap pisses me off and we sit and complain and don't do anything. FIGHT BACK!

The information that I have with some of the folks ivolved is a BAG LIMIT to prevent the wholesale collection of turtles being sold for food. I have NO objection to this and in fact I support it. Alligator Snappers were once trapped so heavily in S. GA and N. Florida they became very rare for a long time. They're just now after a 20 year ban becoming reasonably common again. In this day and age the unregulated collection of many herps and especially Chelonians has to be controlled or there won't be many left.....TC

Tom,

I, too, support reasonable bag limits based on data and the number of collectors. This new push by Aresco and company is different from the bag limits that were set back in Septemeber. Read the article. They want to BAN all harvest. Bans should be illegal, period!
