Eggs ready?

newwine Sep 08, 2003 12:05 PM

How can you tell when the hatchling inside an egg is ready to come out? I have one left that has opened the shell with its eggtooth but has no signs of wanting to come out.

I have it in a bit of water just to keep the shell soft.. I don't want him to dry up in there.. I don't know if I am doing it right..

TIA

I'm not a expert but, I think you're not supposed to take them out of their incubator until after they've absorbed their yolk sacs?...

Hi there,
Thanks for replying. They were not in an incubator. I dig up all my eggs and if they're not ready, I put them in a tub with dirt in it, that's all. But this particular egg already had been opened by the turtle itself with its toothegg. Sadly, I had to throw that one away.. It never made it. My baby is doing really well, though.. He is actually basking on the rock now. He started doing that for the first time yesterday. He's a bit slower and smaller than the rest of them, so I have him separate. He actually is inside with me. But I take him outside every day.

I'm sorry that the egg didn't make it. Good luck with the other ones
