Corn snake problem

NYCMedic Nov 22, 2008 04:28 PM

I have a 10 year old fem corn snake who has been recently been refusing food. I have not set area for brumation temps yet and all other snakes are eating fine. I noticed a swelling of her abdomen about 3/4 down. I am ruling out either a stool impaction or she may be eggbound. she is about 4 ft long and the mass is about 4-5 inches long and about 10-12 inches from the vent . She is extremely thin after the mass towards the vent. The other day she started to wretch and sort of "burp" is the best way I can explain it. Has this ever happened to anyone before. I have been soaking her in warm baths to try to iniatiate a bowel movemnt with no luck. She is not showing signs of malaise or fatigue. money is tight right now and I cant afford an x ray of her so any other remedys or advice would be greatly be appreciated

I am trying to think of something helpful to say, Has she been defecating at all?

I'd recommend a vet, Money may be tight, understandable.....

If she is suffering, and you really cannot find a way to get professional help, the humane thing to do would be to put her down. (I have been backed into that corner myself before)

Not something any of us ever wants to consider or talk about, but sometimes it's the right thing to do.
