My Hopi just layed 6 eggs as you know last week. I thought it being late in the season, that would be it with the breeding.
Zuni her male mate, has been EXTREMELY aggressive towards anything that moves outside his tank ! Today after feeding them all, I went back about an hour later to find my sweet docile little Hopi on her side, holding her little leg in the air all bloody, and her side was also biten and bloody ! I held her to calm her, and thought before I fix her up I want everybody who can't wait to breed and get those cute eggs and babies, to SEE what else the female, & YOU, MAY DEAL WITH ! It was not pretty.
My baby girl has been washed with warm soapy water, and has a bacterial antibiotic ointment on her. She will be fine lthough her leg is swollen and she is not using it, she hold it high and limps. So although it is wonderfully exciting to breed them, be careful, keep a good eye on yours. And remember it is not always dilly dandy , it can be quite painful to a female. Thats it, got it all out now.
