SERIOUS** WARNING !!! EXTREME MALE SEXUAL AGGRESSION >>

eve Sep 08, 2003 12:11 PM

My Hopi just layed 6 eggs as you know last week. I thought it being late in the season, that would be it with the breeding.
Zuni her male mate, has been EXTREMELY aggressive towards anything that moves outside his tank ! Today after feeding them all, I went back about an hour later to find my sweet docile little Hopi on her side, holding her little leg in the air all bloody, and her side was also biten and bloody ! I held her to calm her, and thought before I fix her up I want everybody who can't wait to breed and get those cute eggs and babies, to SEE what else the female, & YOU, MAY DEAL WITH ! It was not pretty.
My baby girl has been washed with warm soapy water, and has a bacterial antibiotic ointment on her. She will be fine lthough her leg is swollen and she is not using it, she hold it high and limps. So although it is wonderfully exciting to breed them, be careful, keep a good eye on yours. And remember it is not always dilly dandy , it can be quite painful to a female. Thats it, got it all out now. Eve

with Squash attached! Thanks for not ruining my lunch. That is terrible. I've never had that happen yet, thank God! Watch that sand...if any of those are open enough, that sand will go right in. I've experienced that with Bluegill...now he is on newspaper to heal!

John

Hope she heals up quick, and her foot is not broken.

....maybe it would be a good idea to block off the line of sight from his enclosure to any other nearby males, as this could be what's jacking him up so much?

Micheal Jims son was holding Kong near Zuni's tank and He was like a maniac flying at the side of glass mouth open, I mean it looked insane. At the time it seemed funny he would try and attack such a BIG male and not think twice. But today seeing Hopi it is not funny anymore. His demeanor has changed drastically, since breeding in July with her. He did attack Tonka a male he live with for a year and nicked his neck. I could understand that. But like i said so late in the season, to be so charged up? And I'm sure he probably did mate if she looks like this. So the poor thing will probably be gravis immediately again. I now have her with little Lakoda, she safe, and I think he is big enough she would not harm him either.
I will not be able to put her back with Zuni, hes freakin CRAZY right now!

I would understand him biting a male, but thats just weird. Hope she heals up fine.

Ha, ha...just teasing you, Scott. "No" doesn't necessarily mean "no" when you're a collared lizard (or Coby Bryant for that matter).

Males sometimes just get to darn aggressive, and try to hard to mate, overpowering the female, to the point of biting too hard to hold her. I will watch for this now, and will not leave them unattended if I ever breed them agai. Right now he is alone. Hopi is dong better using her foot. Thank God !

With some of your TLC and antibiotic ointment she will be back on the Playsand in no time! LOL

Shes limping alittle bit, but her foot is down, so maybe in a couple of days she will be as good as new . Really something how fast it happened and how aggressive he became with her, so soon after her laying. I hope he did not acually mate again. Poor baby girl, if so I will not breed her at all next season, she will rest. Shes a doll as far as sweetness goes. Hey hows that baby Vegas? And the Tegus that does not feel well?

lauraLSU Sep 09, 2003 02:34 PM

I upped his temps and humidity a good kbit and it really seemed to help. I fed him yesterday and he ate well, but not as much gusto as usual! :> Vegas is really good, he is already in for the day! What a lazybones! He is eating pretty well, but not really as enthusiastic as Bonita. His appetite does seem to be increasing though.

His head is getting some green on it, but no yellow yet.
I wonder if Jonhe sold me a dud! LOL

Laura
(even if he is a dud, I still love him!)
