Giving partly shed a bath...?

songwriter Nov 22, 2008 06:15 PM

Well, my son's Ball has been back from being lost for what, about a week now? It's still got about 1/3rd to half unshedded skin on it. It's been fed small white baby mice twice since and hasn't gone poo yet.

The Ball book we have says to give it a shallow bath in lukewarm water to remove the rest of the shed but doesn't say much else. Obviously there's no soap involved, but how long to let it soak? Scrubbing of any kind? Rub gently with a soft toothbrush after 30 minutes? There's still some shed over one eye.

help....
-Jim

Number one thing I would do is higher those humidity temps. Secondly I would soak the snake and allow the snake to squirm through your hands putting small pressure to the body so the snake scrapes its shed off. As for the eye. I wouldnt touch it.
Higher the humidity temps and by the next shed he should shed in one peice.

I usually usa a lidded tub with warm water for 30 min and then slight pressure while sliding through my hands. there is another product that works well bensons snake oil . I know he was an escape but if you mist everyday from the time the eyes go blurry until the shed he will shed clean.

I usually soak mine for about 15-20 in luke warm water. Afterwards I hold the snake in my hands for awhile and let it weave in and out of my fingers. Usually helps with the sheds. I dont recommend scrubbing or trying to peel off the shed.
Many pet stores will carry a product called 'Shed Ease'. Simply add a few table spoons of that to your soaking water. I've only used it once, but it worked great. The old shed literally rolled right off in my hands.

I have done this multiple times with my pythons, luke warm water make sure though that they are not completly covered in watered and I usualy give them some kind of stone to help the shed, like a paver (stone with very rough surface). I gently rub the water on them put the lid on and check on them about every 15 minutes. Hope this helps
